What is Commit Karma about?
Commit Karma is a GitHub application that encourages users to participate in code projects beyond just making code changes. The app tracks Code Reviews and Pull Requests across all projects with Commit Karma installed, and calculates a user's Karma across all repositories. The Karma is based on the user's positive Review to Request ratio, which means that the user needs to have a positive balance of reviews given compared to the pull requests submitted. If the user's ratio is not positive, a failed Check is added to their Pull Request.
This incentivizes users to contribute by reviewing the changes of others, as any Code Review counts towards their positive karma. The app is designed to promote collaboration and engagement within code projects, and to encourage users to participate in the community beyond just submitting code changes. With Commit Karma, users are motivated to give back to the community by reviewing and providing feedback, which ultimately leads to a more cohesive and productive coding environment.
