What is Stale about?
Stale is a GitHub application that automatically closes inactive Issues and Pull Requests that tend to accumulate during a project. Stale works by applying a label to mark an issue as stale after a period of inactivity. It also optionally posts a comment to notify contributors that the Issue or Pull Request will be closed. If the Issue or Pull Request is updated, or anyone comments, then the stale label is removed. If no more activity occurs, the Issue or Pull Request will be automatically closed with an optional comment.
To enable Stale, users need to install the app and create a .github/stale.yml file in the default branch. This file contains various settings, such as the number of days of inactivity before an issue becomes stale, the number of days of inactivity before a stale issue is closed, and exempt labels that will never be considered stale. Users can also customize the label to use when marking an issue as stale, and the comments to post when marking an issue as stale or closing a stale issue.
Overall, Stale helps project managers and contributors keep their GitHub projects organized and up-to-date by automatically closing stale Issues and Pull Requests.
